pin pitches for DIP switches

Apr 16, 2026

1.27mm and 2.54mm are the two most common pin pitches for DIP switches. The core differences lie in their size, installation method, operating handfeel, and knob design.

1. Picth difference

  • 2.54mm pitch is standard pitch in dip switch industry, it features big size ,the 8-way one is approximately 20mm long, it comes with DIP and SMD, it is compatible with hand soldering and breadboard. you can operate it by hand or pencil, clear feel feedback. the 2.54mm dip switch is widely used for industry control , motherboard, DIY and testboard.
  • 1.27mm pitch is micro half‑pitch package, it has miniature size , the 8 ways is 11mm length, it saves 46% PCB space. it is suitable for SMD assemble, it requires SMT equipment, operation: Tweezers / probes required; difficult to handle directly by hand. Applications: IoT, wearable devices, Bluetooth headsets, micro sensors.

2.54mm plastic knob (large toggle), wide, high and big shape, horizontal/side toggle with large finger contact area, made of wear-resistant and tough PBT, nylon or POM (white/black), with long travel, clear positioning and moderate force (about 500–800gF).

1.27mm plastic knob (micro toggle), narrow, short and compact in size, piano-style / thin type with small pitch, made of PBT and LCP for thinner and more precise structure, with short travel, light force and crisp positioning (about 200–400gF), mainly available in white / black, small size with low recognition.

三,Core Parameters Comparison

Parameter 2.54mm (standard) 1.27mm (micro)
pitch 2.54mm (0.1") 1.27mm (0.05")
assemble DIP  / SMD  SMD
size big(8 way≈20mm) mini(8 way≈11mm)

knob big, high and good feel feedback narrow, short and compact, crisp feel
application industry control , motherboard, DIY IoT, wearable devices, micro sensors.

Choose 2.54mm: Ample space, hand soldering, frequent debugging, industrial grade.

Choose 1.27mm: High-density PCB, micro devices, SMT mass production, limited space.
